Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S Vs Redmi Note 8 Vs Redmi Note 7: What's The Difference?

Redmi Note 8 vs Redmi Note 7 – Comparison

As expected, the Redmi Note 9S is based on the Redmi Note 8's modified version of the Snapdragon 660 chipset. This is because the Redmi Note 8 and the Redmi Note 7 were launched in China with the same Snapdragon 660 SoC and a 13-megapixel dual camera setup.

While the Redmi Note 8 sports the same 6.3-inch FHD+ display, the Redmi Note 7 comes with a significantly bigger 6.2-inch display with a slightly smaller FHD+ resolution. The Redmi Note 8 also packs a similar 4000mAh battery under the hood. On the other hand, the Redmi Note 7 features a smaller 3500mAh battery.

The Redmi Note 7 is the only phone in this lineup to have dual cameras on both the front and back. While it comes with a 13-megapixel sensor at the back, the front of the Redmi Note 7 sports a 20-megapixel sensor with AI Portrait mode.

Just like the Redmi Note 8, the Redmi Note 7 features a Snapdragon 660 SoC, but it does come with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The battery capacity is same as the Redmi Note 8, and as a result, it also comes with the same fast charging support. It is worth noting that while the Redmi Note 7 ships with Android Oreo out of the box, it will soon be upgraded to Android Pie.

As for the pricing, it is likely to come in around the same range as the Redmi Note 7.

Redmi Note 9S Vs Redmi Note 7 – Conclusion

Based on all this information, we are leaning towards the Redmi Note 7 with its larger battery and bigger display. It is a mid-ranger that comes with the best performance and battery life. The Redmi Note 9S, on the other hand, is a stripped down version of the Redmi Note 8. It sports a smaller 5.84-inch display, smaller 4000mAh battery, a less capable camera, and probably won't appeal to many.

Having said that, we are not sure what will happen in the sub-Rs. 15K price segment. Huawei has already announced its Huawei P20 Lite that comes with the same chipset and features as the Redmi Note 7. It's also likely that Xiaomi may launch the Redmi Note 7 Pro in India, which will make it one of the first smartphones in the country to ship with the Snapdragon 710 processor.

The question is, will the Redmi Note 7 be able to compete with the likes of the Huawei P20 Lite and the P20 Pro? Or is it too late to even be considered a competition? Which phone do you think takes the crown this time? Let us know via the comments.
