It looks like Samsung's long-awaited foldable smartphone may have been outed in a recent leak.

The well-known leakster and industry insider Evan Blass shared on Twitter a supposed retail box for the so-called Galaxy F, believed to be the Galaxy F or whatever Samsung decides to call it in its marketing materials. Blass did not reveal the source of this retail box image.

This version of the rumored foldable smartphone can be opened to reveal two separate 4.5-inch displays. The smaller screen is the one likely to be used when the device is folded, while the larger screen will be where users are likely to see content on the device.

The Galaxy F will be the world's first commercially available foldable phone. The concept was confirmed in a statement from Samsung last year, which revealed that the device would be unveiled at the end of 2018.

Blass further speculated that the Galaxy F will sport the Infinity Flex display. He also revealed that the screen on the device will have a resolution of 1,440 by 2,960 pixels.

The Galaxy F is expected to feature a 6.44-inch screen and a weight of around 198g. There is no information yet if the smartphone will be produced with a Samsung-made AMOLED or an LCD display.

Samsung did not confirm any details surrounding the foldable phone, but rumors suggest that it may be ready for commercial release as early as next year. However, the device may still be subject to delays.

The first foldable smartphone has not really taken the mobile market by storm yet because there are not many apps available for such a device. The real challenge will be for Samsung to find a way to convince users that a phone that can be folded is actually worth buying.

It will also be important for Samsung to ensure that its foldable smartphone is futureproof. If a handset is released early, it will likely be outdated by the time it's launched.

Vertical smartphone displays have been featured in Samsung's recent phones, but the company's competitors have not taken advantage of it yet.

It remains to be seen if Samsung will be able to pull off a major innovation with the Galaxy F.
